US says Baidu, Taobao are markets for piracy

BEIJING: The US Government has labelled China's top search engine, Baidu, and a popular e-commerce platform "notorious markets" linked to sales of pirated and fake goods.

The two companies were among 33 websites or public markets in China, Russia, India and other countries that the US Trade Representative's office said facilitate trade in music, clothing and other goods that are fake or unauthorised copies.

China is a leading source of fake and counterfeit goods despite repeated government crackdowns. Beijing launched its latest enforcement effort in October and says it hopes to achieve lasting results.

The USTR report said Baidu links to websites that sell pirated or counterfeit goods while outside merchants use Taobao, an e-commerce platform operated by Alibaba Group Ltd, to sell infringing items. It said the list was not a legal finding but an effort to call attention to abuses and encourage governments to stop them.

The outlets cited "exemplify the problem of marketplaces dealing in infringing goods and helping to sustain global piracy and counterfeiting," the report said. "The United States urges the responsible authorities to intensify efforts to combat piracy and counterfeiting in these and similar markets."

The report said Taobao is making "significant efforts" to address piracy but "still has a long way to go in order to resolve those problems."

Alibaba said last month its chief executive and chief operating officers resigned to take responsibility after a probe found suppliers defrauded customers. It said 100 salespeople, out of a workforce of 14,000, allegedly involved in defrauding customers were fired.

In a written statement, an Alibaba spokesman, John Spelich, said: "We appreciate the USTR's acknowledgment of our ongoing efforts to work with brand owners in protecting their intellectual property rights and we will continue to work closely with brand owners and others to further enhance the level of trust and integrity in our online marketplaces for the benefit of all our stakeholders."

A Baidu spokesman, Kaiser Kuo, declined to comment.

Other websites cited by the report include Canada-based IsoHunt, Russia-based Rutracker, China's 91.com and Demonoid in Ukraine. It cited public markets in China, Ecuador, Paraguay, Indonesia, Ukraine, India and Argentina.

The report said the economy of a whole city in Paraguay, Ciudad del Este, is "based in part on the trafficking of counterfeit and infringed goods," especially electronics.

"This activity spills over into the entire Tri-Border Region of Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil, creating a hotbed of piracy and counterfeiting," the report said. - AP

BLOGGERS and blog operators these days are able to chalk up revenues of up to RM1mil annually, according to Berita Harian’s front-page report.

According to the daily, bloggers, who post their personal accounts are now exploiting their blogs for business transactions or advertisement placements, earning an average monthly income of RM70,000.

The daily highlighted blogger Mira Abu Bakar, whose highest monthly income revenue through advertising revenue was RM12,000 in 2008.

Mira, who has been operating her blog Redmummy.com since 2005, earns an average monthly revenue of RM2,000.

She admitted that she had to declare her side income with the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) as she was unaware about it until she received an audit.

An IRB spokesman said online businesses including via Facebook were bound by the Income Tax Act 1967 and their income were taxable just like fixed income.

Nuffnang (M) Sdn Bhd manager Nicholas Chay said hat revenue of a blog depended on the number of viewers and visitors at a certain period.

He said popular blogs could earn huge profits because advertisements or product reviews posted.

He said when they went for marriage counselling, she had vented her anger and scolded the ustaz.

After their child was born, he said his wife continued to sideline him and demanded the money they used for their wedding, which she regarded as debts that he had yet to repay.

One year into their marriage, he is considering divorce.

The Internet is running out of IP addresses

TIME TO CHANGE: A touted solution to the running out of "IP" numbers is to switch to a standard called IPv6 that allows trillions of Internet addresses, while the current IPv4 standard provides a meagre four billion or so. - AFP/Relaxnews

NEW YORK: With everything from smartphones to Internet-linked appliances and cars getting online, the group entrusted with organising the Web is running out of the "IP" numbers that identify destinations for digital traffic.

The touted solution to the problem is a switch to a standard called IPv6 that allows trillions of Internet addresses, while the current IPv4 standard provides a meagre four billion or so.

"The big pool in the sky that gives addresses is going to run out in the next several weeks," said Google engineer Lorenzo Colitti, who is leading the Internet giant's transition to the new standard.

"In some sense, we are driving toward a wall. We have to do something, and IPv6 is the only real long-term solution."

The pool in the sky is a fast-draining reservoir of IP addresses maintained by the non-profit Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

ICANN has been calling for a change to IPv6 for years but websites and Internet service providers have been clinging to the old standard since the birth of the Internet.

"One of the reasons it has taken so long to change is that there is no obvious advantage or killer application for IPv6," Colitti said.

The number of addresses that IPv6 allows for amounts to 340 "undecillion" (followed by 36 zeroes); enough for a trillion people to each be assigned trillions of IP numbers, according to ICANN chief Rod Beckstrom.

"I guess if we could somehow link an IP address to every atom, we might begin to run into problems," Beckstrom said of IPv6 during an interview in his office in the Silicon Valley city of Palo Alto.

"As far as thinking about the number of objects that humans own and use, we are pretty safe."

With about seven billion people on the planet, the IPv4 protocol doesn't allow for everyone to have a gadget with its own online address.

The situation has been equated to not having enough telephone numbers for everyone.

Once the supply of IPv4 addresses ICANN distributes to the five regional centers around the world are gone, computers and other gadgets might have to start sharing instead of having unique identifying numbers.

"You will start to share with your neighbors, and that causes problems because applications can't distinguish you apart," Colitti said. "If your neighbour ends up in a blacklist, you will too."

"The Internet won't stop working; it will just slowly degrade," he continued, explaining that systems would eventually have trouble handling multiple connections on shared addresses. "Things will get slower and flakier."

Don't worry

New websites or online services stuck with shared IP addresses wouldn't perform as well as pre-existing offerings that have numbers all to themselves.

The effort and expense of changing to IPv6 would fall mostly on Internet service providers, websites and network operators that have to make sure systems can handle the new online addresses and properly route traffic.

Consumers, for the most part, shouldn't notice the switch since complex IP numbers would still appear to them as words and domains, such as ICANN.org.

Some people might need to update routers or modems that connect computers to the Internet.

"It is important that users don't worry," Colitti said, dismissing talk of an 'IP-ocalypse.'

"But, it is important that we as an industry work together," he noted. "It is critical we preserve this extremely precious Internet and allow it to grow."

Google, Facebook and other major Internet players will add IPv6 addresses to their systems in a one-day trial run on June 8 to let all parties involved check for trouble spots.

"We need to kick the tires on it at a global scale and see if there are some unforeseen problems," Colitti said. "There is really a rallying cry element to it. No single player can do it alone; we need to work together."

World IPv6 Day will start at 0001 GMT on June 8.

In a worst case scenario, running out of IPv4 addresses with no switch to IPv6 would mean new gadgets wouldn't be able to connect to the Internet because addresses weren't available, according to ICANN.

"Ideally, people will see nothing," Beckstrom said of a transition to IPv6.

But, "if enough networks don't move to IPv6," he continued, "people could literally see nothing because they can't connect the next iPad, iPhone, or whatever."

IPv6 allows for seemingly limitless innovation in the Internet as well as addresses enough for sensors in anything from chairs and thermostats to individual bottles of wine in a cellar to signal when vintages peak.

A full shift to IPv6 will take years, with the remaining stock of old IP addresses being allocated to support the transition, according to Beckstrom.

Must register as Business entities for any Online Business in Malaysia

GEORGE TOWN: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has taken legal action against 400 local online e-bu-siness operators in the last two years for not registering as business entities.

Malaysia Business Ethics Institute (MBEI) chairman Dr Zainal Abidin Abdul Majid, said most of the operators were charged under Section 12(1)(a) of the Business Registration Act where they face up to 12 years in jail or a fine of up to RM50,000. He said this yesterday after atten-ding a business ethics dialogue which was launched by Deputy Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Rohani Abd Karim here. Dr Zainal said the MBEI advised online site operators to upload their code of ethics onto their respective websites.

“Nowadays, in the globalised age, e-business is growing rapidly but at the same time, site operators must also promote strong business ethics to attract customers,” he added. Earlier, Rohani urged more people to use the consumer tribunals to settle disputes about contracts with telecommunication, Internet and television service providers.

It is learnt that many consumers are unhappy after signing long-term agreements with the service providers as a result of the poor connections.

eBay, the world’s largest online shopping community, has collaborated with the Malaysian International Fashion Alliance (Mifa) to take homegrown fashion labels to a global audience.

Participating in this year’s Malaysia International Fashion Week (M-IFW) as Official Online Partner, eBay Malaysia has created a microsite where local established designers from the annual event will be featured.

Shoppers can now log on to www.ebay.com.my/fashion and gain access to the latest designs from Asian Atelier by Alin Anuar, Eric Choong, Eclipse, Gallo by Thian, KN Key Ng, Nurita Harith, Stud, Tangoo, Tom Abang Saufi and William Liew.

The inaugural collaboration with Mifa is the latest effort by eBay Malaysia in forming valuable partnerships with key industry participants to extend the benefits of e-commerce.

How to prepare for Google's updated algorithm

On Aug. 10, Google announced Caffeine, suggesting a shift in the Google algorithm. Matt Cutts, the head of Google's webspam team, indicated Caffeine is basically a rewrite of the search index, roughly comparable to the Big Daddy upgrade of 2005-2006.

The once hush-hush project is supposed to revitalize the Google algorithm to provide users with a better search experience. The official word is that the update is "the first step in a process that will let us push the envelope on size, indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness, and other dimensions."

Based on that, it sounds like we'll get faster indexing speeds, with more pages indexed and a more comprehensive search results page -- necessary advances as the web becomes more unwieldy. For search marketers, it means more competition for single, generic-type keywords, less stability of rankings, and an increased focus on long-tail keywords as they become more relevant to sales conversions.

That's all good news if your website is well ranked for your best keywords. If not, it's time to optimize now. Make sure your site conforms to Google's new infrastructure to avoid any loss of rankings.

I was invited by Penang USM last week "Techoprenuership Talk". It is an honor for me to share my experience & knowledge to the young graduate how they can use Internet Marketing to start an online business from home while still studying.

Practical skills is crucial when you are looking for employment. What this graduate learned about online marketing is purely from the text book. Theory and Practical is a totally different learning experiences.

Text book might look 100% perfect strategy with minimum risk. While when you pratices it on the real world, it might not the case. You will face a lot of challenges and obstacle.

I totally believe our education system should emphasis more on practical training rather from the text book. This will definitely add advantages to the young graduate when they are looking for employment in future.

Since the world economy is under recession, the worst since 1930 great depression. It is not easy to look for employment at this moment. Thus, it is good for the University graduate to learn the internet skills and make some pocket money online.

My next challenge is to share my internet knowledge & experience to other higher education in Malaysia.

Wealth, Success & Love!

I came across this story related to "Wealth", "Success" & "Love". It is full of wisdom and we can learn so much from it. Read the articles and you will understand what i means.

A woman came out of her house and saw 3 old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them. She said "I don't think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please come in and have something to eat."

"Is the man of the house home?", they asked.

"No", she replied. "He's out."

"Then we cannot come in", they replied.

In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened.

"Go tell them I am home and invite them in!"

The woman went out and invited the men in"

"We do not go into a House together," they replied.

"Why is that?" she asked.

One of the old men explained: "His name is Wealth," he said pointing to one of his friends, and said pointing to another one, "He is Success, and I am Love." Then he added, "Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you want in your home."

The woman went in and told her husband what was said. Her husband was overjoyed. "How nice!!", he said. "Since that is the case, let us invite Wealth.. Let him come and fill our home with wealth!"

His wife disagreed. "My dear, why don't we invite Success?"

Their daughter-in- law was listening from the other corner of the house. She jumped in with her own suggestion: "Would it not be better to invite Love? Our home will then be filled with love!"

"Let us heed our daughter-in- law's advice," said the husband to his wife.

"Go out and invite Love to be our guest."

The woman went out and asked the 3 old men, "Which one of you is Love? Please come in and be our guest."

Love got up and started walking toward the house. The other 2 also got up and followed him. Surprised, the lady asked Wealth and Success: "I only invited Love, Why are you coming in?"

The old men replied together: "If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two of us would've stayed out, but since you invited Love, wherever He goes, we go with him. Wherever there is Love, there is also Wealth and Success!!!!! !"

Twitter reject facebook offer

Facebook has been a hot acquisition target for years but the massively popular social networking site is now looking to pick up some of its own big name web properties. Apparently, the company tried to acquire Twitter for $500 million worth of stock five weeks ago but senior executives at both companies gave up on the idea at the beginning of Nov 2008.

The sticking point was of course price, with Twitter executives claiming that the $15 billion valuation of Facebook is inflated and taking the all stock offer would have would have actually given the deal a 150 million dollar price tag according to their calculations. Moreover, it seems there was a feeling among Twitter investors that the start-up should keep growing on its own and take a shot at figuring out its own revenue model.

Google dominate Search Engine Market share!

Once again,Google increase the Search Engine Market Share for 2008!

Google's share of the US search market rose by 0.4 per cent in November compared with the previous month, new figures have shown.

According to comScore, Google accounted for 63.5 per cent of all search queries made last month, with AOL being the only other search engine in the top five to also increase its market share. Yahoo!, Microsoft and Ask.com, which were in second, third and fourth place respectively, each saw their share of the 12.3 billion core searches made by US web users fall by either 0.1 or 0.2 per cent in November.

Overall, 7.78 billion searches were made on Google, compared with 2.5 billion on Yahoo! sites and 1.01 billion on Microsoft sites, search engine marketing executives may be interested to read.

Meanwhile, recent figures from Attributor showed that Google's DoubleClick and AdSense programs accounted for the bulk of the ad server market in October, followed by Yahoo! and Revenue Science.

More than one-third of US female Internet users surveyed either contributed to or read blogs in March 2008, according to the BlogHer/Compass Partners' "2008 Social Media Study."

In the study, a full 29% of female blog readers said they had made a decision to buy a product based on information found in a blog post. Female blog publishers—defined as those who read, post and publish blogs at least once a week—were apparently even more influenced by blogs: 38% said they had decided to buy something after reading a blog post.

5 Principle of Testing!

Our entire philosophy is based on the principle of testing EVERYTHING you do — and tracking the results.

It’s the only way to keep track of what you’re doing right with your online business, and what you need to improve.

For example, let’s say you want to make some changes to the layout of your web site. Obviously, you don’t want to make changes just for the heck of it. Any changes you make should be for one main purpose: to do a better job of converting visitors into customers.

But if you don’t test the new version vs. the old version, how will you know if the changes you make actually DO improve the performance of your website? And if you don’t track the results of your testing, how will you be able to know exactly which changes had the greatest effect?

Simply put, if you don’t test and track every single change you make to your site… every promotion you run… and every traffic generation strategy you try… you’re going to be shooting in the dark every time. And there’s absolutely no way of knowing what you’re going to hit.

So here’s my list of the top 5 things you absolutely MUST know about testing to keep your business on target.

1. Only test ONE thing at a time

The most important thing to remember is this: KEEP IT SIMPLE.

Test one thing at a time. It’s the only way you’ll ever know exactly which change is causing which effect.

Let’s say you want to increase the number of opt-ins from your site. There are lots of different things you could test to make this happen.

You could try putting your opt-in form in a different location. You could change the wording of your opt-in offer. You could try offering a free gift instead of just a free newsletter.

But if you made all these changes at ONCE and your opt-in numbers began to skyrocket, how would you know which change was responsible? Besides, one of these changes could actually be having a negative impact — and you’d never even realize it!

If you have no way of knowing, then the next time you change your opt-in offer, you’re back to square one.

2. The MOST important numbers you need to know

You need to know TWO main numbers to keep on top of your website performance: the number of visitors you get and the number of sales you make in any given period. That way, you can figure out exactly how many visitors you need to attract to your site in order to make a sale.

Here’s how you do it:

Let’s say you got 300 visitors to your site in one day and you made 12 sales. Simply divide the number of visitors by the number of sales like this: 300/12 = 25.

For every 25 visitors you got that day, you made 1 sale. (Expressed as a percentage, this means your conversion rate was 4%, as 1/25 = 0.04)

If that conversion rate remains steady, then you can expect to make one sale for every 25 visitors. If you get 100 visitors, you’ll make 4 sales. If you get 1000 visitors, you should make 40 sales.

It’s a simple conversion — something everyone should know. It tells you EXACTLY how well your website is doing its job.

If that conversion rate drops for some reason, it could mean there’s a problem with your website — and you should do a thorough examination of it right away.

On the other hand, if it spikes, then you should try to figure out why more visitors are suddenly buying your products — so you can repeat this success!

3. Test the most important things FIRST

Don’t start off trying to track 30 things at once! Focus on your money makers first, as they’ll have the greatest impact on your business.

If your site sells more than one product, then you should be tracking the conversion rate for each product separately. Maybe your site is doing a great job at selling one product, but a lousy job at selling another. This is something you need to know, so you can figure out what’s going right in the first case and what’s going wrong in the second.

4. Think in terms of RATIOS as opposed to ABSOLUTES

Think in terms of percentages, not whole numbers.

Instead of thinking, "Hey, I made 25 sales last week!" — think, "Hey, I made 25 sales per 1000 visitors last week!"

Knowing you made 25 sales is nice — but it doesn’t tell you anything by itself.

If you know you made 25 sales per 1000 visitors, however, you know your conversion rate is 2.5%. (In other words, 2.5% of all your visitors last week bought something from you.) If it was a normal week, then going forward you can expect that 2.5% of all your customers will probably buy something.

This kind of knowledge is ESSENTIAL if you want to forecast how much revenue you’re going to make in any given time period. It also gives you a baseline number that you can refer back to when testing different elements of your web site in order to grow your income bigger.

For example: imagine if you changed the headline of your sales page this morning — and you ended up making 25 sales, just like you did yesterday. Does that mean that the change to your headline had no effect on your sales numbers?

Not necessarily.

Maybe you only got 100 visitors to your site today, instead of 1000. That means your conversion rate today is actually 25% — which is HUGE! That means 1 in every 4 people is taking action on your site. Wow. That must have been some headline you wrote.

(However, you really should find out why you only got 100 visitors to your site today. Once you bring that number back up to 1000, then if your conversion rate stays the same, you’ll be making 250 sales a day!)

5. Track your conversions by SOURCE

It’s not just enough to know what your conversion rate is. You’ve got to know where your best-converting visitors are coming from.

For example, are your most qualified visitors coming from pay-per-click ads you’re running through Yahoo Search Marketing? Or are they coming from your organic listing on Google — or maybe your affiliate network?

This is something you need to know! It’ll help you understand where your most lucrative stream of traffic is coming from — so you can focus your efforts there and work on growing those high-converting traffic numbers even bigger.

Microsoft bought over Yahoo?

Microsoft said Friday that it has signed a deal to buy an online advertising management company, in a sign that the software giant is aggressively making its foray into the lucrative Internet advertising world.

San Francisco-based Rapt Inc. became Microsoft's newest acquisition target as the company has been trying to gain its clout in other business arenas like online advertising.

Rapt makes software that helps companies manage their online advertising operations, including determining the most profitable pricing and placement strategies. The company's clients include major media companies such as MTV Networks, NBC Universal and NewsCorp.'s Fox Interactive Media.

Meanwhile, officials from Microsoft and Yahoo reportedly met earlier this week to hold informal talks on a merger proposal, but the talks did not lead to an agreement.

The meeting between the two giants did not involve any negotiation of Microsoft's earlier high-profile bid to buy Yahoo, initially valued at 44.6 billions dollar. Microsoft officials only presented their vision for a combined company during the session.

The holding of the meeting suggests that the Silicon Valley search engine may be softening its stance against Microsoft's takeover offer, which its board of directors rejected last month by saying it undervalues the company, industry analysts said.

Microsoft's effort to take over Yahoo is seen widely as a step by the software giant to challenge Google's newly-established dominance in the online search and advertising markets. Its offer to buy Yahoo was the largest in the company's 33-year history.

MYTH #1: Starting an online business is expensive

Reality: Depending on the type of business you wish to start, your start-up costs can be as little as 50 bucks.

The fact is, most businesses do NOT need to incur expensive start-up costs… and most businesses should not invest a lot of start-up capital before they’ve tested their business and their market online. That’s where so many "dot bombs" made such a grave mistake in the past, and there’s just no need to take that risk.

Only once you’ve tested your business idea on the ‘Net and found it to be a viable opportunity should you start investing in the kind of software, web design, inventory (or whatever) that you’ll need to grow your business. Then again, you may want to just do it all yourself every step of the way…

We started our first site in 1996 on a budget of 20 bucks.

MYTH #2: I need to be an expert before I can start a business

Reality: It’s really a shame that so many people put off starting the online business they’re dreaming of because they think that before they can start, they need to become a web designer… a search engine expert… a programmer… and an MBA.

The truth is that the most successful people on the Internet are often none of the above!

The key: Learn just ONE thing, and learn it well… then move on to the NEXT strategy, and the next, and the next…

Anybody can start an online business. All it takes is a little courage to start and a little resolve to keep going and keep learning new strategies, techniques, and ways to grow and improve your business.

MYTH #3: All the good Internet business ideas are gone

Reality: Opportunity abounds on the Internet, and e-business success is not a waning proposition. Far from it — the online shopping community is rapidly increasing both in terms of how many online shoppers there are and how much they’re willing to spend.

And there are so many proven business models on the ‘Net that you can simply follow… or there’s plenty of room for you to develop your own, unique approach to your market. And there are so many different things you can sell! For example, you could…

Sell your own products
Sell your own services
Drop ship products
Recommend affiliate products
Sell ad space
Joint venture with like-minded businesses
Start an affiliate program

… and more.

These are the top online profit streams, but of course you can always find others. Plus, there’s no reason why you can’t incorporate several of them into your business model! The key is to focus on one, maximize revenue from it, and then move on to the next.

MYTH #4: I need a good product idea before I can start

Reality: You do not need a product idea to start — and not only that: If you do start with a product idea… you’ll be off to a bad start!

The reality is, most businesses that start off with what they think is a good product idea are destined for failure. Your product might be great, but if nobody wants it, your business isn’t going to get very far!

That’s why it makes so much more sense to look for your market first. If you can find a need in a market you can reach, then simply give them what they’re asking for… your business is bound for success from day one.

For example, we know a man named Eric Weeks who doesn’t really like trucks very much — he’s never owned one himself. But when he noticed that thousands of people search the Internet for "truck accessories" every day, he knew there was a market just waiting for him to give them what they needed…

Well, we interviewed Eric for our "Secrets To Their Success" Private Web Site when his Truck-Bed-Covers.com site was only one year old… and already Eric was generating $800,000 annually in online sales!

Eric’s advice is, "I sure as heck wouldn’t consider building an e-commerce site on personal interests. So whether it’s weight loss or travel, home business or truck bed covers… if enough people are interested in those subjects, then THERE is where you need to apply your efforts."

It pays to remember: Find your market first. Then look for a product to give them.

MYTH #5: I need "brand recognition" on the Internet

Reality: Online branding has been preached in the past as one of the big "Do or Die" marketing strategies. But the fact is, "brand recognition" is something you probably don’t even need.

Effective branding creates the kind of fierce product loyalty that leaves customers indifferent to the marketing tactics of the competition. It’s what compels you to walk past all of those no-name-brand on-sale colas at the local grocery store and pick up the 6-pack of Coca-Cola that costs three times more. It’s what makes children plead and beg to go back to McDonalds again and again. And it’s what has made the phrase "Just Do It" synonymous with Nike.

It’s all very impressive, right? Well… yes. But the truth is, most small, online business do NOT need to make their company or product a household name — and will likely go bankrupt trying.

You’ll be most successful and most profitable if you closely target your market. Focus on getting your business name and your advertising in front of your best potential customers — the people who have an expressed interest in what you’re offering — as opposed to everyone!

If you’re a small or home-based business then, chances are, you don’t have the millions of advertising dollars it takes to build a nationally recognized brand and make your company a household name — at least not yet!

So let’s skip the high-priced large corporate branding techniques — after all, these strategies simply don’t translate to e-businesses with limited advertising budgets — and instead, focus on your target market.

MYTH #6: Affiliate programs are hard to start

Reality: Enlisting an army of affiliates is extremely easy!

The great thing about affiliate programs is that it’s easy to persuade people to join. They have nothing to lose as there’s no cost to them, it just takes them a few minutes to get set up, and they have the potential to make a lot of money!

They persuade visitors to click through to your site by posting a simple banner ad or text link on their web site — or perhaps by writing a short referral letter to their customers — and you do everything else. You lead the visitor through your web site, close the sale, process their payment, fulfill their order, and handle any customer service issues.

You also track how many orders each affiliate sends you, calculate their commissions, and ensure that they get paid what they deserve. You take care of the big issues and they get paid for simply referring new customers to your site.

So what’s in it for you?

There are no advertising costs! With your own affiliate program, you only pay for advertising that gets results! It doesn’t matter how much traffic an affiliate’s site receives — whether the site gets 10 visitors a day or 10,000 visitors a day! You are paying on a per result basis… so you make money every single time!

And, thanks to affiliate tracking software, managing hundreds, even thousands, of affiliates is extremely easy. The software automatically keeps track of which affiliate made which sale… where each customer is coming from… exactly how much you owe each affiliate… etc.

So tracking 10,000 affiliates is just as easy as tracking one affiliate! It takes us about two days a month to run our affiliate program — and we have over 100,000 affiliates who generate over $3 million in business for us every year! (That’s about $250,000 in sales for every day that we work on it!)

So the moral of this story is: Affiliate programs are incredibly easy to start, easy to run, and definitely worth your while!

MYTH #7: Pay-per-click advertising is expensive and doesn’t work

Reality: Pay-per-click listings are an excellent option for small online businesses, or for those of you who need a quick, cheap injection of highly targeted traffic to your web site!

Pay-per-clicks can get you to where you want to go in the search engines fast — and if you ensure that you are not competing against large, wealthy corporations for hugely popular keywords, you can get there without spending a lot of money.

If you are just getting started online, you are in an especially interesting position to begin experimenting with the pay-per-clicks, because the beauty of pay-per-click advertising is that you can see immediate results. You don’t have to wait weeks or months for your listing to be posted. You can simply fork over the cash for a top-three position and see how it affects your business…

Just keep it simple! Don’t try to outbid industry giants who can afford to pay big money for the highest-traffic terms. Go after the lower numbers and the neglected terms that you can scoop up for next to nothing and use to your enormous advantage.

If you don’t get the kind of ROI (return on investment) you expected, you can simply cancel your bids for that spot, and try out another one!

You can test, hone, re-test, and perfect your pay-per-click marketing campaign very easily with pay-per-click search engines, as long as you keep an eye on your bid amounts and watch to ensure that you are always at least breaking even on your bids.

MYTH #8: "If you build it, they will come"

Reality: Many people think that if they build an attractive, well-designed web site, people will come to it.

Don’t believe it! It may be true of phantom baseball players in Kevin Costner movies… but it’s not true for YOUR business on the Internet!

You can’t just build a pretty web site and pack it full of interesting, useful information… and expect it to succeed. No matter HOW good your site or your business model may be, this just won’t work.

Why? Because nobody will find you!

People won’t just appear out of nowhere. In order to build a business that has a good chance of being successful, you have to take your great business model and your beautiful web site… and promote the heck out of it!

You know how the old saying in the brick-and-mortar business is "location, location, location"?

Well, online, you could say that the key to success is: "Promotion, promotion, promotion!" The only way to get people coming to your web site is to let them know about it… and to put it right in front of their faces at every opportunity. Whatever marketing techniques you choose, whether they’re free or paid, online or offline, small scale or huge endeavors, make sure that you’re running your promotional campaigns constantly and that you test their effectiveness.

MYTH #9: Viral marketing does not work!

Reality: Viral marketing allows you to exponentially increase your visibility online by turning your existing network of clients and newsletter subscribers into a giant word-of-mouth referral machine!

Much like a flu virus which can easily spread from one person to many others, awareness of your company can be dramatically increased by persuading your clients and subscribers to refer you to their friends and family.

Hotmail, for example, is probably the BEST example of viral marketing there is. Why? Because their phenomenal success has been based on their simple tactic of adding a small Hotmail advertisement to the bottom of every e-mail sent by a user on the Hotmail system.

A Hotmail user sends a friend an e-mail. At the bottom of the e-mail, the following advertisement appears:

The friend thinks to themselves, "Hey Look! I can get a free e-mail account from MSN Hotmail. Obviously they are a reputable company because my friend has an account with them… I think I’ll sign up for one too!"

A word-of-mouth referral from a trusted friend or relative carries much more weight than self-proclamations of greatness!

So the friend clicks on the Hotmail link and heads off to get their very own Hotmail account. Essentially, Hotmail has developed the ultimate referral system! Hotmail users promote Hotmail each and every time they send an e-mail.

The power of viral marketing lies in the snowball effect these referrals can have on your business. And these referrals pack a great deal of punch, because people who learn about your business via a third party are much more likely to trust you.

So believe it when we tell you that viral marketing does work, and it works very well.

MYTH #10: My customers don’t want me to e-mail them

Reality: If you don’t e-mail your customers and subscribers, you’ll be doing them a disservice!

Think about it: Your opt-in e-mail list is made up of people who want to hear from you. (They’ve visited your site, or they’ve come into your shop, and they’ve decided that they like what they see enough to give you their e-mail addresses.)

And that means you are giving your customers and subscribers something they’ve asked you for. When someone gives you their e-mail address, they understand that you’ll be using it to send them information that they actually WANT to receive.

Plus, you are developing valuable lifetime relationships with your customers and subscribers. E-mail allows you to contact the people on your list over and over again, so that you can build genuine relationships with them. Don’t think your customers won’t appreciate this!

And the best part is that e-mail marketing really works! 82% of online buyers have completed at least one purchase in response to an e-mail promotion. With numbers like these, you can understand why we’re always stunned to hear about a business that STILL hasn’t started using e-mail marketing.

MYTH #11: Web salescopy should be short

Reality: Long copy is generally preached as a "no-no" by online marketers. They’ll tell you that you should stick to using multiple short "pages" that contain a single, complete thought.

But do you know what I discovered after extensive testing and re-testing? Long copy sells! The key here is that if people are interested, they will read as much as you can write. I have proven this time and time again.

We have always used a direct salesletter that is about eight pages long….

We use these eight pages to walk the reader smoothly through the sales process… so by the time the reader arrives at the section where we explain our offer and ask for the sale, they are convinced of the value of the product and are open to our sales "pitch."

Have we tried short copy on this site? You bet!

We tested a multi-page web site, but when we broke it down into four separate web pages, sales dropped by almost 70%!

The fact is, a well-constructed salesletter leads people through each stage of the sales process, giving them exactly the right information at exactly the right time to ensure that you overcome their objections to buy and close the sale successfully.

It takes a certain amount of time to orchestrate this process, and you need to implement a number of steps to create the right formula. That’s why your salescopy often needs to be long.

So the moral of this story is, long copy can definitely work!

It all depends on your business, your market, and the product or service that you are trying to sell. You should take the time to test both strategies on your web site and see which works best for you.

New Year Resolution 2008!

This will be my last post for year 2007. Another one and 1 hour, we will move to another Year! I am so excited about 2008, i do not know why? But really looking forward for 2008.

I believe everyone have a new year resolution. Whether you have achieved it or not, it is another question. My guru told me that, always aims high. If you aim for the star, at least you will hit the moon.

For me last year 2007, definitely a good year for me. I fire my boss and become my own boss. It is not a easy feeling when you first start on your own. You have to work smart and plan your schedule ahead. Because at the end of the month, no one is going to pay you salary except yourself!

You need to ready "Focus" and "Never Give Up Attitude". If found any challenge, always "ASK" for help. Success is a journey!

All of this, the most important element is "Do What You love". If not, you will one day give up your business.

Ok, that about last year, what i gonna achieve this year 2008?

Yahoo! US Auction sites are Closed!

This morning, i browse through a Yahoo Auction site and thing of selling some junk item. What i found out is the US & Canada Auction site is closed! Not sure what is the reason.

However Yahoo Auction at Hong Kong, Singapore & Taiwan still remain active. I believe that Ebay is still the leader in Auction site. Alexa statistics show that, they are rank no 21 as a most popular site search in the world.

I would suggest if you plan to sell something online, use Ebay as a starting point. You know why?
First it is FREE to register, second you do not need to create a website and third,you do not have to spend time and money to generate traffic to your site. Everything is ready for you, you just need to find a niche product to sell.

Internet business is NO different from offline business,you need to spend time to learn and build your empire, especially for newbie. You heard people making USD 10k ,20k or 50K in 1 day right? but do you know that how long they take to master the skills before he/she achieve this result. It might be 2-5 years! That right!

What is the difference between Training & Coaching?

For most of the people, it might look the same. But let me clarify, both of them are completely different. Based on wikipedia Training is refers to the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competencies as a result of the teaching of vocational or practical skills and knowledge that relates to specific useful skills.

Training is where you learn the soft skill or I would say that the fundamental. For example, if you like to play golf, will you go straight to the game before learn what to swing the golf clubs? Of course No!

First you must equip yourself with basics training skills, learnt how to swing the golf club, understand the rules of the game etc.

“Coaching” is more personal (1-3 people in a group or sometimes is one to one). They will guide you step by step to ensure you doing the correct thing. Coach do not make decision for you, they can only guide you. You have to pick up the ball and hit it yourself.

Also coach is not necessary better than you. Let take the example of Andrew Agassi. He has a personal coach. If both of them playing tennis, guess who will win? Definitely Andrew!

So why he need a coach? The bottom line is coach is to guide you and not doing job for you!

You might wonder why do i talking about this subject and what it going to do with internet marketing?

Which is the best affordable and reliable web hosting available in the market?

For your information, i have been using Godaddy hosting for 1 year. I have more than 3 hosting and 10 domain register with them.

To be frank, I am not so happy with the services provided. I had a experience that, my website was down for 3 days and domain forward fault for 4 Days. When i email them, no concrete answer is given. Normally just need to wait and see.

Is Making Money Online taxable in Malaysia?

I believe a lot of people staying in Malaysia is wondering whether they have to pay tax for money they earn via website example selling product at Ebay, Goggle Adsense, online trading etc.

Prior to 2001, all income which comes from outside Malaysia will be tax. After the new ruling, all income from international are tax exempt. It is to encourage Malaysian to bring oversea money into Malaysia.

But it must fulfill these requirements :

1) The source of money must from outside Malaysia (Adsense, Ebay )
2) The customers must be outside Malaysia

For website based income, this is the incentive.

Para 13. Tax Incentives For Offshore Trading Via Websites
Income received by companies undertaking offshore trading via websites in Malaysia will be taxed at a concessionary rate of 10% for a period of 5 years, on condition it is approved by the Minister of Finance. Income after tax distributed to shareholders is also exempted from tax.

Today, I come across a newspaper article and spot this ads that inspired me to read on. The topic is about “Blogging and Big Bucks”.

The article is talking about how you can use blog for advertising. What is the feature of blogging and how much you can make out of it?

Some people make big buck of money and some don’t? why is this happen?

A common ads that most people do is via goggle adsense. Ads that pay you based on pay per click, cost per thousand impressions & cost per action.

When blogging, people can see whether you are writing sincerely or just the sake of money. If your blog does not have a good content, it will eventually lost the viewer. So, the advise is be serious when Blogging!

Online ads is a big business in America but in Malaysia it is still a small business model as we yet to have a habits of online purchasing.

Global company such as Sony,LG and Intel already know the potential of online ads and blog advertising, but in Malaysia people still rely on print ads like newspaper. It will take sometime before blog ads become popular.

I just went through a few series of book and video tutorial by this guy call Rich Schefren. He is the guru of all the Internet guru if you are talking about how to build a successful online business model.

A lot of well known Internet guru is coached by him, for example Joel Comm, Google Adsense guru is one of his students.

According to Rich Schefren, in order to build a successful online businesses , you must have 7 important elements. If you miss out anyone of them, I guarantee your business will not last for really long. That is why you heard people say that 80% of the business is closed in the first 5 year and the remaining 20% is out for the next 5 years.

There are 7 major components that determine whether your business is going to success or failure.

Vision=>Strength=>Passion=>Resources=>Alliance Partners=>Powerful Tactics=>Action Plan

If you have all the 7 important element, you are in the right track, you are building a successful online business model. Let say now, you miss one of the component “Vision”.

“Vision” is how you foresee your business grow in future. Will it be number 1 in the market place or just an ordinary company? If you do not have “Vision” , you definitely do not have any ideas where you are heading and that will lead to “Confusion”.

If you do not have “Strength”, you will feel “Anxiety” as other people is more knowledgeable. One day, they might take over your business. Strength is what you good at and do better the most.

If you do not have “Passion”, what will happen to your business in long run?

“Alliance Partners” is the part I like most. If you want to grow your business faster, you need to have to work with someone. You alone cannot concur the whole market. Look for partnership to work together! Partner with similar goal will lead you to success.

If you do not have “Powerful Tactics”, then you are not catching up with your competitor. You are going to loose in the battle field. Other people are enjoying catching the big fish and you only get a small fish. This problem will lead to “Poor Result”.

Alright, now come to the last part call “Action Plan”. If you miss out element, nothing is going to move and you are still who you are. Talk is Cheap!

However when come to online business, a lot of internet marketer eventually ignore this part. They think of creating an “Ultimate Product” to sell online. Product that no one is selling except themself. In other words, No Competitor!

They believe the “Ultimate Product” is going to make them RICH!

You know what! you are making a BIG mistakes in your life. If your product do not have any competitors at all, then it is pretty sure that is no one searching for that product as well.

A really powerful marketing tips I learned from my Internet Guru Alex Mandossian is that “Always Improve, Do Not Invent” Find a product that already available online and improved the quality or add more benefits to that existing product. You must create a Unique Selling Proposition (USP). There is where you differentiate your business from other competitor and make them buy from you over and over again.

Ok, do these stop me from setting up Pay Pal account? The answer is NO. I can always use another Country address. I set up Pay Pal with Singapore address. By the way Singapore is Malaysia neighbour country and pay pal have an office at Singapore.

Any payment will send via cheque to Singapore. From Singapore I can ask them to send to me at Malaysia.

That is how the system works! Not rocket science right.

Start apply Pay Pal Account now and integrated to you website. Hope this information Help.

World Internet Users

Do you know which region in this world have the most internet user? Is it Asia, Europe, North America, Latin America, Africa, Middle East or Australia/Oceania?

The answer is Asia! Yes it in Asia with approximately 389 million people online as Jan 2007. Follow by Europe 313 million and North America 232 million.

If you are a serious Internet Marketer, Asia is the market must tap into. China itself have about 36% user online which contribute the most to Asia region.

According to a semi-annual survey conducted by the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), as of the end of 2006 the number of Internet users in China was estimated to be 137 million, a 10.5% penetration rate.

While that penetration rate is small compared with many other countries around the globe, China ranks second only to the US in the overall number of users online.

In fact, many analysts feel that the number of Internet users in China will surpass the number of US users within two years. At the current rate of growth it is forecast that Chinese Internet users will exceed the 210 million US users by 2009.

Importantly, over 90 million of those users are already connected by broadband. While the Chinese government figures show nearly 140 million Chinese users, there are less than half that many connected computers.

Vital Wave estimates that 50% or more of the users in China connect on shared-access points, such as Internet cafes and school labs, or by hand-held mobile devises.

Until the gap between Internet usage and computer ownership in China narrows, the market opportunities for hardware and software providers will not be as prevalent as the usage numbers would normally indicate.

Access aside, the CNNIC figures show that Chinese Internet users closely resemble users around the world, though the user population does skew more male than female.

Blogging for Money?

After doing some online research, I found out that a lot of people are not still sure or unaware about blogging?

What is blogging? Can I make money with blogging?

The answer for this is Yes. But before I go further, let me tell you what is blogging.

Blog initially start as an online diary but quickly developed into so much more such as to index at Search Engine and other internet marketing techniques.

You can write anything you like from your family to your hobby. Statistics also found that people who read blog are more likely to purchase online.

There are reported about 50 million blog in 2006 and as compare to 2005 with 7 million. In other word ,there is a blog created every 2 minutes. That is how popular with blogging. It take less than 5 minutes to create a Blog. Try it out and i am sure you will love it.

Word Press and Blogger is the two most popular blog platforms available. The question is now which platform should I use? Sometimes I heard people said Word Press is better than Blogger and vice versa.

Let me clarify, if you are a beginner, use blogger as it is a free blog than own by google. You do not have to submit to google for search engine optimization as it is own by google. You only need to submit to Yahoo and MSN.

However the only disadvantage is you do not have control on the blogger design and domain name as it is all provided by Blogger.

As for Word Press, you will need a web hosting and domain name to start blogging. You need to download a plug in software to install to your own hosting. Anyway Word Press also have a free blogging at wordpress.com

My suggestions is, if you are new in blogging, use Blogger and for more advance user you can try out Word Press.

If you plan to make some money with blogging. Google adsense and Affiliate program is the most easier way to start.

Do you know what are the differences between Google Page Rank and number of Traffic to your website?

Are there interrelated?

To those who do not know about Google Page rank,it is a little icon shown on the Google Toolbar on top of your browser. It look like this

To find out the answer ,i have carried out some survey and it take me sometimes to found that, website with High traffic ranking, DO NOT necessary have a high Google Page Rank and vice versa. Yes, I mean DO NOT.

Google Page Rank gives the ranking based on your website contents that relevant to searcher. If a searcher type “Money” at Google search box and come to a landing page of a website. If the website contents have all the information or articles relevant to money. The chances Google will give you a Page Rank is quite high.

Google gives a Page Rank range from 1 to 10. For more details about Google Page Rank, you can visit this sites

Recently one of my website has been given Page Rank 1 and 2. It is a brand new website with not many traffic. The two website are

You can check the website traffic at Alexa. It will provide you the statistics of any website. Example number of visitor visited your website per month and which site is link to you and etc. It is a great tools for internet marketer to do research.

So the conclusion is, do not be surprised that if you see a website with high traffic but only have a low Google page rank. Google Page Rank and Traffic ranking is NOT related to each other.
